Black cockatoos

Destruction of habitat in and around the Perth area is a big threat to the future existence of black cockatoos. It is great to see the Shire of Kalamunda supporting black cockatoos (see here) through the Great Cocky Count. However, the shire also needs ensure that the habitat remains for these cockatoos.

The Shire has recognised that this will be a concern for the proposed development:
"The Shire has undertaken a Flora and Fauna Survey on the site and a number of environmental concerns, including the habitat of various threatened cockatoo species have been identified." (Special Council Meeting Agenda, 10/10/11)
