Council committee approves rezoning - now goes for Council approval

On Monday 10th August, the Council considered the rezoning of the Wilkins Rd reserve this Monday 10th August. There was one delegation for, and one delegation against the proposal, and 2 speakers against the motion. Despite more than half the public objecting to this proposal, the officer recommendation is that Council "... Adopts the amendment to Local Planning Scheme No. 3 without modification".

The committee recommended to council to proceed with the rezoning. There was an additional item included in the recommendation, being:
"Direct the Chief Executive Officer to write to the state government to request that the land to the east of Reserve 30314, being Reserve 32700 and Reserve 40367, are included as part of the Darling Range Regional Park."

Maybe if the Shire had previously ensured that all the reserves destined to be included in the Darling Range Regional Park were properly transferred, we wouldn't be in this mess!

We expect the council to consider this at the Ordinary Council Meeting on Monday 24th August. So it is not too late for Councillors to reject this ill-conceived idea and ask the Shire to withdraw its MRS re-zoning request from the WA Planning Commission!
