Fortunately, there are a number of checks and balances in place to before a bushland reserve of environmental significance can be cleared and developed. From the timeline below, it is hard to see aged care being built on Wilkins Road any time soon.

May 2015

Public submissions for assessment under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC).

February 2015

Public submissions for the rezoning of the Shire's Local Planning Scheme (LPS) from Regional Reserve - Parks and Recreation to Special Use (Aged Residential Care).

December 2014

Public submissions for the Metropolitan Region Scheme (Perth) rezoning from Parks and Recreation to Urban.

December 2013

Proposal determined to be a 'controlled action' under the EPBC Act, for assessment by 'preliminary documentation'.

September 2013

Public submission on the referral for assessment under the EPBC Act.

February 2013

The Shire of Kalamunda Corporate & Community Services Committee voted to initiate an amendment to the Local Planning Scheme No. 3, to rezone from Regional Reserve – Parks and Recreation to Special Use (Residential Aged Care). (Meeting 18 February 2013 (extract available here).

October 2011

The Shire of Kalamunda considered at a Special Council Meeting expressions of interest for a partnership arrangement for the development of aged care facilities on Reserve 30314 (40) Wilkins Road Kalamunda. Bethanie Group Inc. was selected for the development (meeting 10 Oct. 2011, extract available here).

July 2011
